A TOUCH OF SARCASM

Acrylic on canvas, 120 x 160 cm

iPORTRAIT IN GOLD

"iPortrait in Gold" is a contemporary painting that poignantly captures the essence of modern identity and introspection. The artwork features a close-up portrait of a person holding a vibrant yellow smartphone, their face partially obscured by the device. The intense focus on the eyes, which peer over the phone with a mix of curiosity and contemplation, draws viewers into a moment of private reflection.

The subject’s skin is rendered with nuanced tones, using broad, expressive brushstrokes that give the face depth and realism. This technique contrasts with the smooth, almost glossy finish of the yellow smartphone, which stands out as a focal point due to its bright, saturated color. The phone, a ubiquitous symbol of contemporary life, serves as both a barrier and a mirror, reflecting the complex relationship between self-perception and digital identity.

The hoody is a blend of dark and moody shades, predominantly black with subtle hints of grey on one side, which enhances the subject's presence and adds a layer of introspective moodiness. The use of black and purple can be interpreted as a metaphor for the depth and complexity of personal reflection, while the yellow phone introduces a pop of modernity and vibrancy.

The artist skillfully uses light and shadow to highlight the contours of the face and hands, emphasizing the naturalism of the figure. The hand, meticulously detailed with visible veins and lifelike texture, holds the phone in a manner that suggests both a casual grip and a deeper engagement with the act of looking.

"iPortrait in Gold" explores themes of self-identity, the influence of technology on our self-image, and the intimate moments of introspection that occur within the digital age. This painting invites viewers to consider their own relationship with technology and how it shapes their perception of self and others. The work is a compelling commentary on the dual nature of connectivity and isolation in contemporary society, rendered through the lens of personal contemplation.

RESILIENCE IN GREEN

In "Resilience in Green," the artist captures a compelling and thought-provoking scene that melds modern consumerism with traditional endurance. The central figure, a stoic woman of color, stands with a sense of determination and strength. Her posture is upright, arms akimbo, suggesting both defiance and resilience. Her expression is one of quiet confidence and resolve, as if she has endured much but remains unbroken.

Perched atop her head is an Aldi shopping bag, a symbol of everyday life and the burdens it can carry. This incongruous element serves as a powerful juxtaposition, highlighting the intersection of global consumer culture with individual perseverance. The bag, painted with careful attention to its branding, introduces a stark contrast against the rich earth tones of the woman's skin and the vibrant green backdrop.

The background is a wash of green hues, ranging from deep emerald to lighter, almost neon tones, creating a dynamic and energetic setting that seems to pulsate with life. This color choice envelops the figure, perhaps symbolizing growth, renewal, and the natural world's omnipresent influence.

The woman's clothing is simple yet effective, a muted brownish garment that emphasizes her form and contrasts with the green background. This choice of attire, combined with her headscarf, hints at cultural identity and everyday struggle, grounding the painting in a narrative of personal and collective resilience.

The artist's brushwork is deliberate and expressive, with bold strokes that convey texture and depth. The attention to detail in the woman's face and hands contrasts with the more abstract treatment of the background, drawing the viewer's focus to her as the centerpiece of the composition.

"Resilience in Green" is a poignant exploration of strength in the face of adversity, blending elements of contemporary life with timeless human spirit. The painting invites viewers to reflect on the stories behind the facades of everyday objects and the quiet, powerful resilience that sustains individuals amidst life's challenges.

GUARD OF DIVERSITY

"Guard of Diversity" is a striking and evocative painting that merges historical iconography of the Swiss Guard at the Vatican with contemporary themes. At the center of the composition stands a powerful figure clad in gleaming parade armor, yet adorned with vivid colors that symbolize the spectrum of diversity and inclusion. The juxtaposition of traditional Swiss Guard armor with modern, vibrant hues creates a dialogue between past and present, tradition and progress.

The guard, a woman of color, gazes directly at the viewer with a resolute and determined expression. Her eyes reflect both strength and vulnerability, capturing the duality of the warrior spirit in a modern context. The detailed rendering of her face contrasts beautifully with the abstract and textured background, which is dominated by warm tones of red cross and yellow, adding an aura of energy and intensity to the piece.

The armor is meticulously painted, with metallic grays that reflect light and give a sense of three-dimensional solidity. In contrast, the colorful segments of her attire—bright reds, yellows, greens, blues, and purples—form a vivid patchwork that represents unity in diversity. These colors not only enhance the visual appeal but also imbue the painting with deeper symbolic meaning, celebrating inclusivity and the strength found in diversity.

In her hands, the knight holds her helmet topped with a red plume, an emblem of bravery and nobility. The helmet, like her armor, is painted with careful attention to detail, reinforcing her readiness for battle. However, the softness of the plume juxtaposes the hardness of the armor, symbolizing the balance between strength and compassion.

The background features bold brushstrokes and a mix of red and yellow tones, creating a dynamic and almost fiery backdrop that intensifies the emotional impact of the painting. The interplay of colors and textures in the background enhances the central figure's prominence and adds depth to the overall composition.

"Guard of Diversity" is a powerful visual statement that celebrates the intersection of historical valor and contemporary values of diversity and inclusion. It challenges traditional narratives and invites viewers to reconsider the roles and representations of modern-day warriors, emphasizing that true strength lies in embracing and celebrating our differences.

GUARDIAN OF FREEDOM

"Guardian of Freedom" is a profound and evocative painting that celebrates cultural identity, resilience, and the strength found in tradition. The central figure, an Uighur farmer with a dignified bearing, stands as a beacon of cultural pride and endurance. His weathered face, meticulously detailed with lines that speak of a life rich with experience, draws viewers into his story.

The man's attire is a focal point, featuring a white Swiss farmers shirt adorned with the words "Freiheits Trychler" and the Flag of the Uyghur Freedom Movement, intertwined with delicate floral embroidery. This blend of symbols suggests a deep connection to both his cultural roots and a broader message of freedom and unity. His traditional cap, rendered in earthy tones, adds an additional layer of cultural specificity.

Flanking him on either side are large, ornately decorated cowbells, known as "Trycheln," traditionally used in Swiss Alpine culture but here recontextualized to signify the weight and sound of heritage. The bells, with their detailed straps and metallic sheen, juxtapose the soft fabric of his shirt, creating a rich textural contrast.

The background is a striking, textured expanse of deep blue, with varying shades that create a sense of depth and movement. This color choice not only frames the figure but also evokes a feeling of vast skies or deep waters, symbolizing the expansive and enduring nature of cultural identity.

The man’s expression is one of solemn determination and quiet strength. His direct gaze engages viewers, inviting them to reflect on the themes of heritage, resistance, and the preservation of cultural identity. The wooden yoke over his shoulders, supporting the heavy bells, symbolizes the burdens carried by those who strive to maintain their traditions in the face of adversity.

"Guardian of Freedom" is more than a portrait; it is a narrative captured in paint, a tribute to the resilience of cultural identity and the enduring spirit of those who carry their heritage forward. The painting speaks to the universal struggle for cultural preservation and the deep sense of pride that comes from maintaining one's roots amidst changing times. It stands as a testament to the power of tradition and the individuals who embody and protect it.

FASHION VICTIM 2

“Fashion Victim 2” is a striking exploration of luxury, nature, and ethical dichotomy. The painting features a luxurious green handbag crafted from snake skin, its surface meticulously detailed with textured patterns that evoke both beauty and the exotic. The bamboo-style handles are elegantly rendered, and the gold "GG" emblem speaks to the allure of high fashion.

However, the true depth of the artwork emerges in the juxtaposition between luxury and life. Perched on the handle is a lifelike snake, its presence a haunting reminder of the living creature behind the luxury product. The snake’s gaze evokes a sense of unease, compelling the viewer to confront the moral ambiguity of transforming life into status symbols.

Set against a lush green background, the painting’s vibrant palette reinforces the connection between nature and humanity’s tendency to exploit it. Through *Emerald Elegance*, the artist invites reflection on the delicate balance between celebrating beauty and questioning the cost of its creation.

BLOSSOMS IN HARMONY

"Blossoms in Harmony" is a vibrant and meticulously crafted painting that celebrates the beauty and intricacy of nature. The composition centers on a delicate and artfully arranged cluster of white apple blossoms, which form the shape of a recognizable logo, cleverly integrating modern symbolism with natural elements. These white blossoms, adorned with hints of pink and yellow, stand out vividly against a rich background of countless purple flowers, creating a striking visual contrast.

Each flower is rendered with careful attention to detail, showcasing the artist's skill in capturing the subtleties of petals and leaves. The use of complementary colors—white and purple—enhances the painting's overall impact, drawing the viewer's eye to the central motif while inviting exploration of the surrounding floral tapestry. The tiny specks of yellow scattered throughout the background add a touch of whimsy and further enrich the texture of the scene.

"Blossoms in Harmony" is a testament to the artist's ability to blend contemporary themes with timeless natural beauty. This piece invites viewers to appreciate the harmonious coexistence of man-made symbols and the organic world, encouraging a deeper reflection on the interconnectedness of all things. The painting's vibrant colors and intricate details make it a captivating addition to any art collection, offering a fresh perspective on the fusion of technology and nature.

HOMAGE A FRIDA

This vibrant painting draws inspiration from Frida Kahlo’s iconic words, “Pies, ¿para qué los quiero si tengo alas para volar?” (Feet, what do I need them for if I have wings to fly?). The central element is the striking red prosthetic leg Frida Kahlo had to use during the last years of her life. Frida’s lifelong struggle with her health eventually resulted in the amputation of her lower right leg in 1953. To hide her disability, Kahlo designed a lace-up red boot to fit her prosthetic leg. With the Chinese design painted on the side of the foot, Kahlo made the boot into art itself.

The leg is juxtaposed between two parrots perched on delicate tree branches, suggesting themes of freedom and overcoming physical limitations. The two parrots are inspired by her famous painting “Me and My Parrot”. The background is a lush blend of green foliage against a bright blue sky, evoking a sense of harmony with nature. The interplay of detailed textures and bold colors creates a dynamic visual experience. The hand-painted text, integrated seamlessly into the composition, reinforces the emotional and philosophical depth of the piece, inviting viewers to reflect on themes of mobility, independence, and the transcendence of physical boundaries.

This artwork is a powerful homage to individuality, strength, and the human spirit, making it a compelling addition to any collection.

STATE OF THE PLANET

DRY PLANET IN YELLOW

"Dry Planet in Yellow" is a captivating acrylic painting that vividly portrays the stark beauty and harsh reality of a drought-stricken landscape. The painting is dominated by cracked, fragmented earth, rendered in a palette of warm yellows and browns, interspersed with striking red and black fissures. The cracks and crevices create a dynamic pattern, suggesting both the natural process of drying soil and the broader themes of environmental degradation and climate change.

The artist's use of bold lines and contrasting colors emphasizes the depth and texture of the parched ground, drawing the viewer's eye across the fractured surface. Each segment of the cracked earth appears almost sculptural, with shadows and highlights giving a three-dimensional quality to the piece. The perspective of the cracked earth changes in the middle of the painting and turns it almost upside down. The overall composition, while abstract, retains a sense of realism that anchors it in the tangible world.

"Dry Planet in Yellow" is a powerful visual commentary on the impact of extreme weather conditions on our planet. It invites viewers to reflect on the fragility of the environment and the urgent need for sustainable practices. The painting's intricate details and vibrant hues make it a striking addition to any contemporary art collection, sparking conversation and contemplation on the pressing issue of climate change.

FRAGILE WATERS: BEAUTY AND DESPAIR

This vibrant painting presents a poignant commentary on the issue of ocean pollution. The composition features a collection of strikingly colorful tropical fish swimming amidst discarded plastic bottles and a crushed aluminum can, their vivid blues, oranges, and yellows contrasting starkly with the dull, lifeless tones of the debris. The artist skillfully captures the fish's natural beauty while emphasizing the intrusion of human waste into their habitat.

The blue background suggests an underwater scene, immersing the viewer in the aquatic world disrupted by pollution. The juxtaposition of the organic forms of the fish with the angular, synthetic shapes of the trash creates a powerful visual tension, evoking a sense of urgency about environmental conservation. This painting is both a celebration of marine life and a call to action, inviting viewers to reflect on their role in preserving the oceans.

WORLD FRAGMENTS

"World Fragments" is a mesmerizing acrylic painting that captures the viewer's imagination with its ethereal depiction of a cosmic scene. The composition is dominated by a large, radiant circle in shades of blue, suggesting the presence of a celestial body or a portal to another dimension. Surrounding this central form are scattered fragments of country borders of the world in varying hues of pink and white, which appear to float weightlessly in the vast expanse of deep blue.

The artist's skillful use of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and movement, as if the fragments are in constant flux, orbiting around the glowing central figure. The delicate interplay of colors and the soft, blended edges of the circle contrast with the sharper, more defined shapes of the fragments, adding a dynamic quality to the piece.

"World Fragments" invites viewers to explore the hidden word “shithole” which often has been used for countries or even the planet itself. The painting evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity about the mysteries of the universe and our place within it. Its abstract nature allows for multiple interpretations, making it a captivating and thought-provoking addition to any contemporary art collection.

The serene yet vibrant palette, combined with the artist's adept manipulation of form and space, ensures that "World Fragments" will leave a lasting impression on all who encounter it.

SURVIVAL OF THE RICHEST

"Survival of the richest" s a striking acrylic painting by Jaermann, created in 2023. The composition centers on an orange life jacket prominently branded with the Hermès Paris logo. The life jacket floats against a vibrant blue background, evoking the undulating movement of water with sweeping brushstrokes and varying shades of blue and white. It’s also reflecting the thousands of people escaping Africa fighting for survival on old, tiny and rusty boats while the rich are not taking notice.

The juxtaposition of the high-end fashion logo with the utilitarian life jacket serves as a powerful commentary on themes of luxury, survival, and the human condition. The painting invites viewers to reflect on the disparity between wealth and necessity, questioning the intersection of branding and humanity.

Jaermann’s use of bold colors and dynamic brushstrokes captures both the immediacy of the life jacket’s purpose and the serene, almost dreamlike quality of the surrounding water. The abstract elements, combined with the recognizable logo, create a visually arresting and thought-provoking piece that challenges conventional perceptions of value and security.

LIFE IN THE ASHES

In "Life in the Ashes," Jaermann captures a poignant scene of resilience amidst desolation. The painting features silhouettes of figures navigating a wasteland, their forms emerging from the hazy, smoke-filled landscape. Dominating the foreground, a central figure stands tall, carrying a basket on their head and a bundle in their hand, symbolizing endurance and daily struggle. The muted palette of grays and browns, punctuated by occasional hints of color, emphasizes the harshness of the environment. This stark contrast draws attention to the figures, highlighting their perseverance against the backdrop of an almost surreal, apocalyptic setting.

Jaermann's brushstrokes are expressive and bold, contributing to the painting's emotional intensity. The textured ground, littered with debris and smoldering embers, evokes a sense of ongoing hardship. Despite the bleak setting, the figures' movements suggest an unyielding spirit, offering a glimmer of hope and humanity.

"Life in the Ashes" invites viewers to reflect on themes of survival, resilience, and the human condition in the face of adversity. Through his evocative style, Urs not only portrays a scene of struggle but also captures the indomitable spirit of those who continue to move forward, even when surrounded by devastation.

INTO THE WOODS

“Into the Woods II” is a striking contemporary work that transforms a forest scene into a rhythmic composition of color and form. Rendered in bold, saturated hues, the painting depicts a stylized woodland with towering indigo tree trunks stretching vertically across the canvas. Sharp, geometric shadows in yellow and green slash diagonally across the forest floor, creating a vivid interplay of light and structure. The sky transitions from soft pinks to purples, lending a surreal and almost dreamlike atmosphere to the scene. Cut logs, rendered in cylindrical forms with clean, contrasting outlines, are scattered in the foreground, adding both narrative and compositional balance.

The artist employs a modernist aesthetic, echoing elements of abstraction and minimalism while preserving enough detail to ground the viewer in a natural setting. The juxtaposition of flat color fields with dimensional depth invites contemplation on the relationship between nature and geometry, light and color, stillness and movement. *Into the Woods II* is both meditative and dynamic—an exploration of the forest not just as a place, but as a vibrant visual experience.

STACKED SILENCE

In Stacked Silence, Urs Jaermann presents a pile of firewood not merely as a rustic motif, but as a symbolic construction loaded with latent tension. The neatly arranged logs, painted in warm, earthy tones with stark orange cross-sections, rest under a chaotic crown of twisted branches—evoking both the practical and the ominous. The visual rhythm of the stacked wood, paired with its elongated shadow, recalls centuries of rural labor, stored energy, and quiet preparation.

Yet beneath this stillness lies a historical undercurrent: the pile echoes the pyres of the Inquisition, where wood was not just fuel but an instrument of spectacle and fear. The painting’s minimalistic landscape and stark lighting heighten this duality—between peaceful countryside and the memory of public execution by fire. Jaermann invites us to reflect on how ordinary materials, when arranged with intention, carry the weight of both cultural heritage and historical trauma.

MIDNIGHT FOREST

"Midnight Forest" is a captivating painting that immerses viewers in a mysterious nocturnal landscape. The artist employs deep blue tones to create an ethereal backdrop, evoking the stillness and quiet of a midnight forest. Tall, shadowy trees dominate the composition, their dark, vertical forms stretching upwards, adding a sense of depth and height to the scene.

Interwoven among the trees are delicate, sinuous lines of crimson red, hinting at an otherworldly presence or perhaps the whispers of the forest itself. These red accents, subtle yet striking, add an element of intrigue and contrast to the otherwise monochromatic palette. The overall effect is a hauntingly beautiful interplay of light and shadow, form and color, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the enigmatic serenity of the forest.

This piece is a testament to the artist's ability to blend abstraction with elements of nature, creating a dreamlike, almost surreal experience. "Midnight Forest" challenges viewers to explore the depths of their imagination and feel the quiet power of nature's nocturnal beauty.

The artist employs a fluid, impressionistic style to capture the essence of a serene forest bathed in soft, turquoise light. Tall, slender tree trunks, rendered in varying shades of green and purple, rise vertically across the canvas, creating a rhythmic and almost musical composition.

The canopy is a lively mix of light green foliage, punctuated with hints of purple and green, suggesting the play of sunlight filtering through the leaves. The forest floor is a tapestry of colors, with splashes of white, orange, yellow, and purple flowers that seem to dance in the dappled light. The use of bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors evokes a sense of movement and life, inviting viewers to imagine the gentle rustle of leaves and the whisper of the wind through the trees.

"Whispers of the Forest" is a celebration of nature's beauty and tranquility, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the serene moments found within a woodland retreat. COUPON NO. 1

With its vivid interplay of organic forms and bold color blocking, Coupon No. 1 draws inspiration from the luxurious, abstract motifs found in haute couture fabrics. Deep sapphire, acid green, burnt umber, and a striking crimson core coalesce like fabric swatches arranged for an avant-garde design. The contours echo the flowing lines of draped silk, the asymmetry of couture pleats, and the layered complexity of fashion pattern construction. Far from being mere decoration, these shapes suggest movement, tension, and tactile elegance—like a runway moment frozen in abstraction. Jaermann bridges the gap between fashion and fine art, inviting viewers to experience textile sensibility through the language of color and form.

COUPON NO. 2

In Coupon No. 2, Jaermann transforms a fragment of an haute couture fabric into a striking visual composition. A monumental red flower—borrowed from the decorative language of luxury textiles—surges into the canvas from the upper left, its saturated form evoking both opulence and intensity. Opposing it, a constellation of cobalt blue blossoms scatters across a deep black background, their irregular contours suggesting vulnerability, spontaneity, and quiet resistance. Bright green leaves interrupt the darkness, injecting the work with a pulse of life.

Drawing on the graphic precision of Pop Art and the psychological resonance of color field painting, the piece plays with contrasts: scale against intimacy, control against disorder, ornament against rawness. The haute couture origin of the motif lends an added layer of intrigue, inviting reflection on how patterns of fashion can be reimagined as fine art—dislocated from their material context and imbued with new emotion.

COUPON NO. 3

Jaermann's abstract composition bursts with rhythm and vitality, evoking the expressive energy of 1970s textile design and psychedelic art. Vivid fields of electric blue, fiery red, and vibrant orange flow across the canvas in bold, organic shapes. The flat application of color, paired with the dynamic interplay of floral and cellular motifs, creates a visual language that oscillates between pop art exuberance and ornamental abstraction. The painting's patterned structure, marked by a sinuous central band and floral eruptions, echoes the visual vocabulary of haute couture fabric fragments—translating fashion into pure form. Jaermann invites the viewer to lose themselves in a kaleidoscope of motion, color, and sensory play.

COUPON NO. 4

In this vibrant composition, bold forms and saturated colors converge to create an abstracted floral arrangement inspired by the elegance of haute couture fabric design. The central bloom, rendered in a luminous golden yellow with rhythmic orange petal-like markings, draws the eye with its hypnotic symmetry. Overlapping it is a textured sphere in olive green and white, suggestive of seed pods or patterned leaves, adding depth and contrast. Smaller elements—pink buds, deep green foliage, and a rich crimson blossom accented with white—frame the scene, enhancing its layered harmony. The simplified, graphic style strips away detail to focus on pure shape, color, and pattern, echoing the stylized motifs and refined textures often found in high fashion textiles. The result is a joyful, tactile visual experience that bridges the worlds of art and couture.

Acrylic on canvas, 100 x 120 cm

COUPON NO. 5

In this vibrant composition, Urs Jaermann translates the language of haute couture fabrics into bold painterly form. The oversized floral shapes in radiant fuchsia, emerald, and deep teal echo the graphic patterns often found in luxury textiles, while the thick black outlines lend a sense of rhythm and structure, reminiscent of fashion sketches made on a grand scale.

The painting is both playful and sophisticated, merging the intimacy of fabric design with the expansiveness of fine art. The simplified floral motifs resist literal interpretation, becoming instead a study of contrasts: organic softness versus graphic precision, sensual color against structured line.

By bringing the aesthetics of fashion fabric into the realm of painting, Jaermann blurs the line between decorative design and contemporary art—inviting the viewer to experience color, texture, and pattern as an immersive visual fabric stretched across the canvas.
